About our Programs and our new location for 2012
We offer a variety of programs to the greater Chicagoland community of Fellow Seekers by offering at least eight programs a year utilizing a mixture of  films and open discussions, plus stimulating and thoughtful speakers and presenters and workshops on a wide range of noetic subjects.

In 2012 we will be meeting at a NEW LOCATION.  The Ethical Humanist Society of Chicago, which is located at 7574 N. Lincoln Ave, in Skokie, has offered us a chance to rent their space, and we are happy that we can explore the possibilities of having this as a new "home base" for us.  We hope that all of our friends and guests will find this to be an excellent location for us.  The EHSC offers us a location that is hospitable and a good scale for our programs. Please do note that the Ethical Humanist Society is not in a position to accept telephone inquiries about our programs, and that our programming, and the views expressed in our programs, are wholly independent of the Society and  do not necessarily represent those of the Ethical Humanist Society of Chicago or its members.

We offer a very wide range of explorations of consciousness every year, but note that the views expressed by our presenters are their own and do not necessarily represent those of Chicago IONS or of IONS itself; however we do work hard to find programs and presenters that we feel are interesting and worth sharing.

You can reach us easily by emailing us at info@chicagoions.org, or through the form you will find on our contact page.

The new EHSC building is about two blocks north of the northbound Kennedy exit at Touhy. It is at the corner of Howard and Lincoln, just west of Skokie Blvd. and free parking is available in their lot, the adjacent lot, and across the street, at The Coffee Bean's lot as well as in nearby side streets. Click HERE for a map view of the location.

Our " typical" program is held on the 3rd Sunday afternoon of the month, but sometimes we use other days and times for longer programs such as  workshops or special speakers.

Please click on our Programs page for more detailed information.

Chicago IONS is the Chicago Community Group of the Institute of Noetic Sciences

The Institute of Noetic Sciences was founded in 1973 by Apollo astronaut Edgar Mitchell, who had an epiphany on his return home from the moon.

He was moved to found IONS so that all of us can explore consciousness; so that we can begin to understand the intersection of science and spirit which illuminates humankind's highest potential as well as to realize and act on the sustainability of human life and global well-being.

Feel free to visit the Institute's main website, to learn more about this fascinating organization. The Institute created a great new website as of September, 2010.

Membership is free and there is an abundant amount of information available on it for your use. Donations made directly to the Institute are greatly appreciated.

Many of us here in Chicago are captivated by what's beyond conventional thinking--from quantum physics to the power of ancient wisdom traditions. We are noticing there is more to the story than what we've been telling ourselves.

We've been noticing how scientific researchers are now giving credence to areas of life not considered scientific--such as the efficacy of prayer, the mysteries of extra-sensory perceptions, the power of intuition, the nature of personal transformation and its relationship to global transformation, and a host of other questions.

About Chicago IONS: The Chicago Community Group

Because of tremendous growing interest in the study of consciousnes, personal transformation, global transformation, and the creation of community, a large number of community groups have formed around the country and world, and the one here in Chicago is Chicago IONS.
We are all volunteers, and we create space and community so that we can explore consciousness and dialogue with others open to such a journey.

We have a monthly newsletter and send announcements of gatherings/programs to the e-list.

Please use the Contact Page to be added to our mailing e-list to keep up-to-date on IONs activities and upcoming programs or for other inquiries. Note that The Ethical Humanist Society of Chicago is not able to provide this information.

Since October of 2009 we have utilized a Shared Leadership model, and we encourage other supporters of IONS to share with some of the work needed to keep growing our group and bringing a high quality message to more people in the Chicago area.

We also support and encourage the development of new "sub-groups" centered around topics, formats (e.g. books, articles, films) or geography. We currently offer a sub-group in Skokie, Illinois, called "Conversations That Matter". This is a "drop-in" style group that does not require a commitment to ongoing participation, and the subject matter will vary from month to month. They meet on the 4th Sunday of each month and you can sign up for our newsletter to find out how to participate.

About Noetic Science

The word "noetic" comes from the ancient Greek nous, for which there is no exact equivalent in English.

It refers to "inner knowing" or “intuitive consciousness”—direct and immediate access to knowledge beyond what is available to our normal senses and power of reason.

Noetic sciences apply the lens of science, its rigors and standards of evidence-based research, to the multidisciplinary study of the mysteries of consciousness.

Chicago IONS is wholly independent of the Institute of Noetic Sciences, and is legally and financially responsible for its own activities.
